My Name Is Julie and I Have an Obsession
Hello, this is me , aged about 12.
Can you tell from the jumper what this is all about?
Hello , my name is Julie and I had a Sinclair Spectrum obsession.
We bought this wonderful little home computer in 1982 , pretty much when it came out. It was a big investment at £100 or there abouts . It was bought by my parents to help their shy, awkward , clumsy daughter with her school work. As she was scared of anything electronic they knew they might have a battle on their hands . But this was the start of a love affair that has lasted over the many years inbetween. Gaming systems have come and gone ( as have printers , joysticks and keyboards) , but my love of this quirky , adventitious piece of tech still remains.
There will be no game play videos ( there are people who do this so well on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/Njenkin and https://www.youtube.com/user/rzxarchive to name just a couple , both highly recommended ) , this is just a place for me to ramble on about my memories of some of these games.
What they meant to me , indeed we may discuss memories of joysticks held together with electrical tape, why certain games have a lingering taste of chutney crisps, the unfortunate incident of the tomato in the night-time and why you should never let your father connect anything to a large 'radiogram' with huge speakers if it sounds like a ZX Spectrum. So enough of an introduction , pull up a comfy beanbag , kick off the slippers and let's start remembering the good old days.
